I have a double barrel shotgun that has: 'American Gun Co. N.Y. Genuine Armory Steel' The Serial #217132.
I understand that American Gun Co is a trade name of Crescent Firearms for H.D. Folsom Stores.
I would like information on the age of this shotgun. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The usual date given is 'about 1900' for all the Crescent/Folsom guns. Don't think anyone has access to a serial number list and am not sure the serial numbers really mean anything on these guns. Crescent existed from 1893 to 1930 and their double barrels evolved from damascus sidelocks to hammerless boxlocks, but sidehammer guns were still being made after Savage/Stevens took over Crescent's operation. If you have a hammerless model with fluid steel barrels, it is no older than 1904.

In support of American farmers we have decided to send payments in the form of grocery coupons rather than actual checks. These will be sent annually on each leap year.

Just below the left hammer is Queencity
Under the forarm is the #182946
This gun is a sxs 28in.barrels.
Both hammers are exposed
I am sure that there is no value to it but would like to know if there is a wat to have a new stock made for it sence the stock that is on it is broke with several pieces of the stock missing.I dont plan on shooting it I want to get it back looking like new to hang on the wall.
I have been after my grand dad for years and years to get his old guns out and I would clean them up for him. I was very suprised that he gave me this one and he said that he has about 7 more that he is going to bring me
Thanks for any info

Queen City, made by Crescent for H.D. Folsom for distribution to the Elmira Arms Co of Elmira NY
I don't know of any sources for Crescent Stocks , your best bet would be to take what you do have of the stock and have a wood worker make you one.

Guest,
A possible source for a replacement stock is: www.boydsgunstocks.com. Their website shows stocks for
Crescent hammer and hammerless guns.

While no surviving records have been discovered, the late Joe Vorisek through years of study of these guns made at H & D Folsom Arms Co.'s factory in Norwich, Conn., under their American Gun Co., Crescent Fire Arms Co. names, and hundreds of 'trade names' compiled an estimated serial number to year of manufacture table.
Assuming #217132 is a hammerless gun it would be from 1911, or if it is a hammer gun 1909.
The Queen City hammer gun 182946 would be from 1907.
The American Gun Co. hammer gun 290556 or 3 would be from 1913.

Hi, I have a single shot, with hammer, Victor 16 gauge manufactured by the American Gun Company bearing serial number either 439 (or 489) 467 (or 457). Is there any way of finding out how old it is? Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

I have a double barrel shot gun that has the word Queen City engraved on the left side of the receiver under the hammer. The serial number under the wooden front stock is 281937. this number is also stamped on the receiver. I would just like to know who made it and approx. year it was made. Thanks for your help.

Queen City was a tradename used by Elmira Arms Co., Elmira N.Y.
It could be a Crescent, and if you will click on the link in the post above you'll find lots of information

Do a Google search. Enter the words 'gun serial number' in the search bar, followed by the portion of the number before the first hyphen. This tells you the gun's maker. For example, with a gun serial number of 331-12345, just enter 331.

The search 'gun serial number 331' brings up results for the Ruger SR9, which is the gun's correct make and model. For serial numbers with multiple hyphens, you might need to include additional numbers between the first and second hyphen to get the most accurate results. For an serial number of 16-003-123-95, enter 'gun serial number 16-003' to learn that the number is for an AyA shotgun.

Check your state's gun laws. Not all states allow private individuals to sell firearms without going through a licensed firearms dealer. If the sale is illegal, chances are the gun is too. Check the serial number online through HotGunz, Stolen-Property or other stolen firearm sites. Not getting a hit doesn't mean the gun isn't stolen, however.

The sites' information comes from citizens reporting their stolen guns. People who lose their guns' serial numbers won't be able to report them on the sites. Get a notarized bill of sale for any gun you purchase so you'll have some protection if the gun is later identified as stolen property. Enlist the help of law enforcement.

Tracing a gun's serial number through the ATF to see if it was involved in a crime is only permissible for law enforcement agencies involved in a bona fide criminal investigation where a gun is recovered or suspected to be involved. However, some police stations will run checks through the National Crime Information Center to see if the gun is listed as stolen.
