Performance: Sonics:Did an A/B comparison to the 1988 MCA CD recording. I always thought the CD did pretty good justice to the source material, but this Analoge Production SACD really does take it to the next level. By comparison, the sound from the CD seems to be set back inside the speaker, while the SACD sound really pushes it out to the front. Whereas I thought that the CD provided pretty good vocal presence, the background piano and drums always seemed to be buried and washed out. I always thought this was just the result of the limitations of the early 1960’s master tapes, but the SACD really brings the background instruments and backing vocals out, balances them perfectly with the lead vocal, and just fills the sound stage in a way that I’ve never heard. Although there is some very minor background tape noise on some of the quieter ballad tracks, I’d much rather have that than have it engineered-out at the cost of some of the crystal clarity that we get with this latest release. CD: 7 out of 10, SACD: 9 out of 10.Was this review helpful to you?
Review by June 13, 2013 (6 of 6 found this review helpful). Performance: Sonics:Cline's big hits were always favorites of mine ever since I can remember. I was ambivalent about this issue because this is a flat transfer from the original master used for the Greatest Hits compilation. (Flat transfer? Seems like anyone can do that! Also I was concerned these might be other than first gen tapes.) My ambivalence is gone after listening to the fantastic clarity of this cd. I have always assumed the Jordanaires sang backup (correct me if I am wrong) on her hits, and they have never been clearer.
Patsy's voice is quite powerful, and seems to distort in just a few places which is probably an original recording issue and not really an issue. Bass and treble are very natural. It's difficult to imagine anyone besting the sound quality of this in the sacd format. Was this review helpful to you? Review by July 31, 2014 (2 of 2 found this review helpful). Performance: Sonics:12 tracks and 33 minutes of music.Older country/blues music might not appeal to everyone. But if you're willing to take a chance you wont be sad you did.A stereophonic recording from way back in the day that sounds quite pristine.like it was recorded yesterday. Say what you will about the so called antiquated recordings of by gone years.they really haven't gotten any better today.
A recording such as this produces a large sonic picture of the vocalist. Clines voice is beautiful in its directness, power and range. There is also a hint of sadness to it that makes it compelling. This recording fills the listening room. This recording captures the very wide, 3 dimentsional sound of the recording process. Cline was an immense talent who died far to young. Thankfully we have this gem which is a great starting point for any prospective fan.If this music is to your liking then you are in for a real teat. Recently I purchased other vintage sacds of Elvis.
These too ware fantastic sounding. If you have those.you know what they sound like.then this disc should appeal to you.The back ground singers and the instruments are also perfectly realized. I have absolutely no complaints with this disc. If your system allows for it.you will be very pleased with this sacd.Excellent mastering Mr. He's more than welcome to transfer any vintage album to sacd if this disc is any indication of what he's capable of.Highly recommended.
